While many private photos exist that show the "Iron Curtain" and its demolition, videos are relatively rare. This is due to the technical development of cameras for private filming: In the year 1989, cheap filming with VHS-standard was not yet available broadly. Today, it is hard for collections and archives to preserve such VHS-cassettes for the future.
Therefore, the House of Austrian History is very happy to invite everyone to hand in their videos on VHS showing the "Iron Curtain" or encounters along the border in 1989 – thanks to a cooperation with the Austrian Mediathek.
