Hinterleitner joined the then illegal Nazi Party in 1933 and drew caricatures for its propaganda materials. He came to fame for his antisemitic and anti-American series “The Adventures of the Jew Tate”, which appeared the Nazi paper Deutsches Volksblatt from 1938 onwards.
From 1947 he worked for the conservative Wiener Tageszeitung magazine, which favoured the People’s Party, and for the Kleine Zeitung newspaper. From 1947 to 1951 he designed several election posters for the People’s Party.
