Aribert Heim (1914–1992)

After the so-called “Anschluss”, Doctor Aribert Heim voluntarily joined the Waffen SS and worked as the camp doctor at several concentration camps — including Mauthausen. Heim murdered countless prisoners by injecting them with poison or through arbitrary organ removal. 

After 1945, he was briefly in prison and shortly thereafter he continued working as a doctor in good standing—until he went into hiding after a warrant for his arrest was issued. He became one of the internationally most wanted Nazi war criminals. In 2007, it was confirmed that Heim had died 15 years prior in Cairo.
