Erna Aflenzer (1911–1957)
Teacher in occupied Slovenia in Gurkfeld/Krško
Aflenzer joined the National Socialist Teachers’ League in 1937 at a time when it was illegal in Austria. After the “Anschluss” in 1938 she was also an official member of the Nazi Party. Aflenzer was a teacher at the secondary school in Gurkfeld/Krško from 20 February 1942 to 17 November 1944.
After having been dismissed from teaching in 1945, the district school inspector responsible for Deutschlandsberg (Styria) requested that Aflenzer be reinstated. This request was denied. In 1947 the Regional Court for Criminal Matters in Graz initiated proceedings against her for illegal membership of the Nazi Party, but the case was dropped. And in January 1948, Aflenzer was back in the classroom, teaching at the Steyregg primary school in Styria.
