Maximilian Grabner was the commander of the Gestapo at the concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. He was responsible for fighting resistance and for preventing prisoners from fleeing. He did this by giving orders to torture and murder. In his crimes, Grabner even disregarded the rules of the Nazi authorities to such an extent that the SS removed him from his position and put him on trial. He was accused of murdering 2,000 prisoners, who had not been sentenced officially. The court proceedings were put on hold and never completed.
After the war ended, Grabner was extradited to Poland, where he was sentenced to death.
