2024: Many Viewpoints, many Languages

16 community radio stations are currently broadcasting in Austria. Their ad-free programmes are made possible by public funding and mostly volunteer staff. The difference between these stations and podcasts is their democratic, cooperative culture. As in any editorial office with journalistic standards, the focus is on negotiating shared principles, not on promoting one’s own point of view.

Since it began broadcasting in Vienna, the community radio station Radio ORANGE 94.0 has focused on creating multilingual programmes in order to involve a wide variety of people and give them a voice. The station aims to be the mouthpiece for a very diverse range of groups. To give voice to a broad spectrum of arguments, conflicting positions are presented in the same broadcast— just one after the other.
