Åse Kleveland was the first woman in the history of the contest to perform in trousers. She later became a politician who campaigned for gender equality and joined the cabinet of Norway’s first woman prime minister Gro Harlem Brundtland. Born in Sweden, Kleveland served as Norway’s minister of culture from 1990 to 1996.
