2025: Criticism of the Boycott
Since the terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel on 7 October 2023 and the subsequent war in Gaza, calls for boycotts of Israeli artists and institutions, drawing on antisemitic traditions, have become more and more frequent. Among those affected has been the public broadcaster, KAN, which nominates the Israeli entry for the ESC. The fact that KAN is an important pillar of critical journalism, including on the Gaza war, has been ignored, likewise the range of opinions of Israeli artists about their government.

Former ESC winner Dana International took to Instagram to address different audiences: in English she criticised the boycott campaign, while in Hebrew she raised critical questions about the social and political situation in Israel.
