Diva — Dana International, 1998
Dana International was the first openly transgender singer to win the ESC. Since then, the queer dimensions of the contest have gained wider public recognition.

The trophy was presented to Dana International by Katrina Leskanich, who won the ESC in 1997 with her band Katrina and the Waves. Dana International then sang her song Diva again. In contrast to her first performance, she now wore a black dress adorned with feathers in the colours of the rainbow—created by fashion designer Jean Paul Gautier. Ten years later, Leskanich entered into a civil partnership with her manager.
