1974: Energy Holidays

In February 1974, semester breaks were introduced in Austria as so-called “Energy Holidays”. In reaction to the first oil crisis, these four weeks of semester holidays were supposed to save heating oil in hundreds of schools. Ultimately, the holidays became an impetus for winter tourism.
