Nathalie Beer (1903–1987)
Writer, journalist in Vorarlberg
After the “Anschluss” in 1938, Beer worked in the offices of the Nazi Women’s League in Innsbruck. One year later she became head of its Press and Propaganda Department and a member of the Nazi Party. The reports and stories she wrote conformed to Nazi ideology.
After 1945 Beer was banned from working in the media but as early as 1948, she started to receive commissions from the state broadcaster, even though her novels from this period clearly convey National Socialist ideas. As well as writing for radio and television shows, she regularly published articles in the Vorarlberger Nachrichten newspaper. For years she was supported by grants from the provincial government of Vorarlberg with no obligation to produce any work in return. She was the recipient of several honours from public bodies and there is even a museum dedicated to her life in the Vorarlberg town of Rankweil.
