1976: "Panagia mou, panagia mou" — Mariza Koch
Turkey took part in the ESC for the first time in 1975 but did not send a song in 1976. While Turkish television still broadcast the show, it did not play the Greek entry. The song Panagia mou, Panagia mou by Mariza Koch was understood as a reference to the occupation of Northern Cyprus by the Turkish army in 1974. The lyrics talk about tents being put up not for tourists, but for refugees.
