In the 1950s, Alois Riml from the Ötztal valley came up with the prototype for a souvenir that was soon to become a success. Until the late 1970s, this souvenir was made by homeworkers and then finished in Hall in Tirol. They call to mind the great era of ski tourism in Tyrol and an astonishing life story – under Nazi rule, Alois Riml spent several years imprisoned in the Mauthausen concentration camp. In the postwar decades, his invention brought him widespread recognition in the region and a modest level of prosperity.
