Forms for reporting tourism statistics to the Austrian Statistical Central Office, June 1985
When in 1985 nine men in Unterolberndorf planned the reorganisation of their home country of Uganda, this left little by way of material traces in Austria. Only the tourism statistics for the municipality of Kreuttal, in which Unterolberndorf is located, noted the presence of nine African men over four days. The participants of the secret meeting were Peter Jjumba and Robert Kitavujja, both students in Vienna, as well as representatives of the Committee of the National Resistance Movement: the future president Yoweri Kaguta Museweni, Eriya Kategaya, Ali Kirunda Kivejinja, Ruhakana Rugunda, Matthew Rukikaire, Sam Male and Zacharia Kaheru.
The form not only reflects the distribution of global tourism but also European perceptions of the world beyond each country’s own borders and the order created by the Cold War.
