Pussy hats, worn on the Women’s March in Vienna, January 2017
Beginning in Washington/USA, in 2017 women around the world protested against the inauguration of Donald Trump as US President. A Women’s March also took place in Vienna. These pussy hats - pink, hand-knitted hats - were the symbol of the protests. The term “pussy hat” is a reference to the politician’s sexist comments and behaviour. The act of knitting, seen as a female activity, became a form of solidarity in the resistance to attacks on feminist achievements and on equality between the sexes.
