Even before its first birthday on 10 November 2019, the House of Austrian History was awarded the ‘Austrian Museum Seal of Quality’ at the 30th Austrian Museums Day in Salzburg. The seal is awarded by two institutions, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) Austria and the Austrian Museums Association. The Museum Seal of Quality certifies that the museum in question has assumed responsibility for preserving cultural heritage and visitors can expect high-quality presentations and services.
Danielle Spera, president of ICOM Austria from 2013 to 2019: ‘As ICOM president, I am very pleased to be able to award the Museum Seal of Quality to Vienna’s newest museum, the House of Austrian History, and offer my heartfelt congratulations. It is a museum that presents the recent history of our republic in striking, contemporary and innovative ways. As director of the Jewish Museum Vienna, I am also delighted at the productive collaboration between our two institutions.’
Wolfgang Muchitsch, president of the Museums Association: ‘The award of the Austrian Museum Seal of Quality to the House of Austrian History confirms two things. Firstly, that the House of Austrian History, which is steadily building up a (digital) collection relating to contemporary history, is a museum which the Austrian Museums Association always argued clearly in favour of and campaigned for because this format was lacking in Austria. And secondly, that it has established itself as an institution within the museums community and has integrated itself into the network as a nucleus of Austrian history museums.’
